Staff Software Engineer

Role Overview

Staff Software Engineer (remote-first) responsible for end-to-end ownership of complex initiatives and driving adoption of an AI-driven Software Development Lifecycle. You will lead technical execution for large projects, ensure long-term codebase health, and mentor engineers.

Responsibilities

• Own architecture, code health, and overall code quality for the team, ensuring successful delivery of complex projects.
• Lead technical execution and delivery for large initiatives; provide architectural guidance and coordinate cross-team efforts.
• Mentor and support L5 engineers, improving team capability through coaching and fostering learning and growth.
• Build and apply AI throughout the SDLC and product development, including designing and building data products for your domain.

Requirements

• 7+ years of relevant industry experience in full-stack development with significant technical leadership experience (Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience).
• Deep expertise with relational databases (notably PostgreSQL).
• 6+ years experience in Ruby on Rails.
• Experience with hosting platforms such as Heroku and cloud providers such as GCP.
• Ability to use AI throughout the SDLC and product development; strong desire to learn and excel with AI-driven ways of working.
• Strong programming and software/data development skills to solve problems independently.
• Excellent communication: translate between technical and non-technical stakeholders and provide meaningful guidance.
• Front-end experience with JavaScript/TypeScript, Stimulus JS, React, and Tailwind CSS.
• Experience in FinTech or PropTech and familiarity with startup environments.
• Compliance experience in SOC 2, ISO, or similar environments.
• Verification-oriented experience such as fraud detection or identity verification.

• Prior significant experience building using agents.
• Additional depth in one or more technical areas as a source of insights and wisdom for the team.
