About the role

Role overview

Staff Software Engineer, DevOps/Infrastructure on the Control Plane / Core team at Engine. This role sets the technical direction for how engineering teams build and ship, and builds the shared infrastructure substrate used across all product verticals.

Responsibilities

Lead the technical evolution of Engine’s control plane—decide where it goes next, not just keep it running.
Design and ship platform primitives such as:
- Terraform modules
- CI/CD pipeline templates and shared GitHub Actions/workflows
- Account and networking patterns teams adopt because they’re better
Build self-serve capabilities by partnering with embedded infra engineers to remove recurring friction across verticals.
Own critical shared infrastructure work, including:
- AWS Organizations hygiene
- CI/CD reliability
- Vendor integration health and contracts
- Incident response on shared infrastructure
Act as a force multiplier by providing paved-road patterns, modules, and primitives.
Mentor across the discipline and stay aligned with embedded engineers via infra standups.
Reduce SDLC step-function gates and approval overhead by improving workflows and automation.

Required requirements

8+ years building and operating production cloud infrastructure with deep AWS expertise, including:
- multi-account architecture
- networking
- IAM and security boundaries
Expert-level Terraform, including designing reusable modules and running Terraform Cloud (TFC) at scale.
Strong CI/CD background with:
- GitHub Actions (reusable workflows)
- GitHub OIDC
- secret management
Experience with platform engineering: building internal tools/abstractions that other engineers actually use.

Nice-to-haves (implied from tooling described)

Control plane and networking/security components such as Cloudflare (WAF/DNS/WARP) and certificate management.
Vendor/tooling integrations including Datadog, JFrog, and Terraform Cloud.
Cost observability tooling and dashboards for shared infrastructure ownership.
