About the role

Role Overview

Join Sumo Logic as a Staff Software Engineer (Data Query) to build a scalable, reliable analytics platform for observability and security products. You’ll design and implement high-performance backend components, improve resource efficiency, and drive operational excellence.

Responsibilities

Design and implement highly performant code to minimize CPU and memory overhead, reducing platform operational costs.
Optimize latency and resource footprint of services running in a microservices environment.
Participate in on-call rotations and troubleshoot production performance bottlenecks.
Lead projects and mentor engineers to improve delivery and engineering practices.
Collaborate with a remote, multi-time-zone team.

Requirements

8+ years of industry experience with a strong record of ownership.
Backend development experience building services that handle large-scale data.
Object-oriented experience in one or more: Java, Scala, Ruby, or C++.
Strong understanding of data structure performance (maps, lists, trees, etc.).
Agile development experience, including test-driven development and iterative/incremental delivery.
Experience with big data and/or 24x7 commercial services.
Experience with multi-threaded programming and distributed systems.
Comfortable working with remote teams across time zones.

Nice to Have

Advanced academic background (B.Tech, M.Tech, or Ph.D. in CS or related field).
