Staff Software Engineer (Cloud Sandboxes)

Role Overview

Join Docker as a Staff Software Engineer on the Cloud Sandboxes team. You’ll design and build core systems for Docker’s cloud platform, with a focus on scalability, reliability, and security.

Key Missions

• Design and build core systems powering Docker’s cloud agentic platform.
• Implement and operate core services for:
  • MicroVM orchestration
  • Workload scheduling
  • Lifecycle management
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver customer-focused capabilities and participate in architectural discussions.
• Contribute to automation and CI/CD improvements.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain high-performance APIs.
• Ensure system reliability for production services.
• Participate in code reviews and architectural discussions.
• Work across remote, cross-functional teams.

Requirements

• 10+ years backend engineering experience building large-scale cloud or distributed systems.
• Excellent distributed systems problem-solving and debugging skills.
• Strong communication and collaboration in remote teams.
• Strong understanding of cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and scalability patterns.
• Deep understanding of container orchestration, Kubernetes, and microservices architecture.
• Strong proficiency in Go and/or Java.
• Experience designing and operating highly available, secure, observable production systems.

Nice-to-haves

• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, monitoring, and infrastructure-as-code.
• Knowledge of service mesh, networking, or policy enforcement systems.
• Experience with cloud-scale compute platforms or container infrastructure products.
• Observability tooling such as Prometheus, OpenTelemetry, Grafana.
• Security best practices for multi-tenant cloud systems.
• Prior experience in developer infrastructure, cloud platforms, or hyperscale environments.
