Staff Software Engineer, Backend — Platform (FinHub Tooling) at Coinbase.
You will own the technical strategy and architecture for the internal FinHub Tooling platform, which provides Engineering, Customer Experience, Risk, and Compliance with operational visibility into billions of dollars of daily fund movements across crypto, fiat, and internal wallets.
What you’ll do
- Own the technical strategy, architecture, and roadmap for the FinHub Tooling platform.
- Drive an AI-first approach to internal tooling by identifying opportunities for AI-powered workflows and automating manual processes.
- Build high-reliability systems including:
- Search
- Admin workflows
- Bulk remediation
- Observability across core financial entities
- Lead cross-functional alignment with Product, Payments, and senior leadership to turn ambiguous initiatives into quarterly technical roadmaps.
- Improve engineering quality by defining engineering processes, leading design reviews, and mentoring engineers on architecture patterns and coding standards.
Required skills & experience
- 8+ years in software engineering, with a track record of designing and building fault-tolerant, highly reliable systems at scale.
- Demonstrated ownership of technical strategy and roadmap for a platform/service area/team, including major architectural trade-offs.
- Proven ability to drive execution on complex, ambiguous, multi-team initiatives and build cross-stakeholder alignment.
- Experience elevating team technical quality via mentorship, design reviews, and engineering process improvements.
- Experience architecting internal tooling/admin platforms/operational systems serving multiple user groups with competing requirements.
- Responsible use of generative AI, with human oversight to deliver business-ready outputs and measurable improvements in efficiency, cost, and quality.
Compensation & location
- Remote-first, with quarterly in-person “surges” sessions.
- Location: New York, NY.
- Annual base salary range (excludes equity/bonus): $218,025–$256,500 USD.
