Role: Staff Software Engineer, Backend

As a Staff Software Engineer at Engine, you will design, build, and lead backend systems and APIs that power the company’s mission of making business travel seamless and technology-driven.

What you’ll do

• Design and implement scalable backend software systems and APIs with a focus on scalability, security, and performance.
• Collaborate with cross-functional partners including Product and Data Science to deliver seamless customer experiences.
• Lead and mentor mid-to-senior engineers; drive quality, scalability, and robustness.
• Own key initiatives that improve efficiency, enhance system performance, and increase customer satisfaction.

What you’ll bring

• 8+ years hands-on experience building and maintaining highly available, high-performing distributed systems.
• Experience building public-facing (consumer-grade) APIs, including versioning, deprecation, and consumption-based rate limiting.
• Strong software design, system architecture, and scalability fundamentals.
• Strong preference for Domain-Driven Design and an ability to operate in a fast-paced environment.

Nice to have

• Experience with Node.js and TypeScript.
• Experience with Kotlin (or similar modern backend languages).
• Experience with AWS.
