About the role

Role Overview

Join AlphaSense as a Staff Software Engineer to lead the architecture, evolution, and reliability of a global financial data extraction and normalization platform. You’ll serve as a technical authority, mentor senior engineers, and help drive long-term technical strategy.

Key Missions

Architect and evolve a large-scale data extraction and normalization platform, ensuring high reliability and scalability.
Design systems that process hundreds of thousands of records with strong reliability.
Reduce human-in-the-loop validation using strategies such as:
- AI-based validation
- Confidence scoring
- Deterministic safeguards
Act as a technical authority to:
- block poor designs
- redesign critical systems
- introduce new platforms/tooling when needed.
Provide technical leadership across teams (without formal people management).

Responsibilities / Expectations

Own the platform’s architecture and evolution over time.
Lead iterative hardening through strong system reliability practices.
Mentor senior engineers and contribute to long-term technical strategy.

Requirements

10+ years building and operating large-scale production systems.
Strong understanding of:
- system reliability and failure modes
- observability
- iterative hardening
Proven experience in data platforms and pipelines.
Demonstrated technical leadership across teams.
Ability to design trustworthy systems combining probabilistic (AI) and deterministic approaches.
Experience designing data ingestion/extraction/processing systems at scale.
Comfort operating in ambiguity and driving clarity.
Passion for using AI responsibly to deliver scalable, high-confidence systems.

Nice-to-haves / Preferred Background

Deep expertise in one or more:
- AI/ML-powered extraction or classification systems
- Platform or infrastructure engineering
- Distributed systems
- Document understanding / NLP / financial data extraction
Experience with:
- provenance / lineage / confidence-scoring systems
- reducing operational or human overhead via system design
- internal multi-team platforms
Familiarity with cloud-native architectures and modern data stacks.
