Role overview

Staff Software Engineer (AI Applications) at Plaid, joining a new team to scale Plaid’s AI initiatives. You’ll lead projects that enable and grow business with AI customers and partners, while shaping the architecture for trust in agentic commerce and improving customer experiences.

Key missions

Lead projects that enable and scale Plaid’s AI customer and partner business, starting with personal finance use cases.
Develop and evolve Plaid’s preferred AI integration patterns, including API adaptations and building official Plaid MCP Servers.
Scale and extend AI-powered customer experience “bets,” improving customer support agents and expanding agentic systems across the customer journey.

Responsibilities (implied by missions)

Architect and build backend services and integration patterns for GenAI applications.
Improve production reliability through strong debugging, monitoring, and evaluation/monitoring of open-ended tasks.
Contribute to UX experiences for consumer linking flows powered by AI.
Work on trust/“trust layer” architecture for agentic commerce.

Requirements

Strong debugging and monitoring experience for production systems.
Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG).
Fine-tuning and prompt engineering.
Agent orchestration frameworks.
Streaming and SSE.
Evaluation and monitoring framework for open-ended tasks.
Backend engineering experience with microservices/service-oriented architectures.
Hands-on experience building and shipping LLM-powered products with iteration based on real user feedback.
Ability to understand customer/user needs via user research and rapid experimentation; act as your own technical PM.
Familiarity with GenAI UX/design patterns.
Semantic search with vector databases and embedding models.
Strong knowledge of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and modern frontend frameworks/libraries for user-facing experiences.
Ability to balance divergent and convergent thinking to drive 0→1 projects.
Experience working in privacy/PII-sensitive environments and applying compliance mitigations.
Experience training and/or serving ML models in production, including fine-tuning LLMs for domain-specific use cases.
