Role Overview

Staff Rust SDK Engineer (Remote)

You’ll help build both the LiveKit Rust SDK and the high-performance Rust core modules that power LiveKit’s real-time client SDKs across platforms. This is a dual-focus role: delivering an idiomatic, robust Rust SDK while designing performance-critical shared systems that other SDKs depend on.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain the LiveKit Rust SDK and shared Rust core modules for the multi-platform ecosystem
• Lead by example: guide and mentor engineers with less Rust experience; promote best practices for maintainable, testable Rust code
• Collaborate cross-functionally with teams across client SDKs, agents, cloud, and product
• Own testing, CI/CD, and release processes for Rust projects to ensure reliability and stability
• Profile and optimize performance in real-time, low-latency Rust systems
• Contribute to SDK architecture and long-term direction, including interoperability across cross-platform SDKs

Requirements

• Strong Rust expertise with experience delivering production-quality libraries/SDKs
• Collaborative, communicative, comfortable working across multiple teams and platforms
• Experience developing SDKs or libraries for multi-platform clients (mobile, web, embedded)
• Understanding of testing, CI/CD, and release best practices in modern Rust ecosystems

Nice to Have

• Experience with LiveKit technologies
• Familiarity with real-time systems, networking, and performance optimization
• Familiarity with WebRTC or related technologies
