Staff Research ML Engineer

Role Overview

Join the Applied AI Team as a Staff Research ML Engineer. You will develop AI/ML solutions that enhance personalized clinical care, owning complex ML problems end-to-end while driving technical strategy across teams.

Key Missions

• Own complex ML problems end-to-end, from initial exploration through production deployment and real-world iteration.
• Drive technical strategy in your domain, including approach to model development, evaluation, and optimization for clinical AI.
• Build and optimize production LLM systems, including:
  • Fine-tuning pipelines
  • Preference optimization
  • Rigorous evaluation frameworks for clinical use cases.

Profile / Requirements

• Deep expertise in production ML systems (built and shipped ML systems users depend on).
• End-to-end ownership of ambiguous, complex problems through deployment and ongoing iteration.
• Communication and influence: can lead technical decisions across teams and explain tradeoffs to technical and clinical stakeholders.
• Production LLM experience: fine-tuned, evaluated, and deployed LLMs in production.
• Preference optimization experience, including techniques such as RLHF or DPO (or similar) in production.
• Strong ML fundamentals: choose appropriate approaches, design rigorous evaluation frameworks, and make principled tradeoffs.
• Excellent engineering skills: production-quality code; ability to understand distributed systems and debug complex ML pipelines.
• Community contributions via open source, technical writing, or knowledge sharing.
• Experience designing LLM evaluation frameworks for specialized domains.
• Healthcare AI / clinical applications experience and understanding of challenges in high-stakes domains.
