About the role
Role Overview
Join Render as a Staff Product Manager to own the vision and roadmap for observability—including system telemetry and agent observability in the context of AI-driven software development.
Responsibilities
- Own the observability vision and product roadmap for Render, integrating system telemetry, OpenTelemetry instrumentation, and agent observability.
- Partner with engineering and other product teams to shape the technical direction of Render’s telemetry pipeline, including architectural tradeoffs.
- Develop deep understanding of how Render’s customers debug, monitor, and manage costs, building conviction about the future of observability.
- Engage with customers and product/engineering teams to translate needs into strategy and shipped outcomes.
Requirements
- 7+ years in Product Management with substantive experience in observability/monitoring, developer tools, or infrastructure products.
- Strong developer empathy and the technical depth to make sound architectural decisions with engineering.
- Familiarity with AI workload economics (e.g., token pricing, model selection tradeoffs, budgeting and attribution of LLM spend).
- Working fluency with the OpenTelemetry ecosystem (signals, semantic conventions, collectors, and tradeoffs for instrumenting production systems).
- Strong communication and storytelling skills.
- Track record of turning ambiguous, cross-cutting problems into clear strategy and delivery.
- Experience as an SRE, observability engineer, or infrastructure engineer.
Nice to Haves
- Contributions to OpenTelemetry or adjacent open-source telemetry projects.
- Hands-on experience building AI agents and/or instrumenting and evaluating them in production.
- Experience with an LLM gateway/proxy/metering product.
- Experience tracking emerging conventions for GenAI and agent observability.
