Staff Product Engineer (Porto Alegre)

Role overview

Staff Product Engineer (initiative-based) at LawnStarter. You’ll serve as the engineering anchor for one initiative at a time, working in an “iron triangle” with a PM and a designer. You lead AI-agent-driven development from problem framing through production and metric review 2–4 weeks after launch, owning the initiative’s outcome.

Responsibilities

• Own an initiative outcome (a specific metric), not a ticket queue or merge volume.
• Shape the problem and determine the technical approach, including architecture, data model, integration choices, rollout plan, observability, and rollback strategy.
• Lead AI agents that implement most of the code; ensure quality, safety, and velocity of agent outputs.
• Where needed, write sensitive hand-crafted code yourself.
• Define agent-led implementation quality: prompts, guardrails, evals, tests, and review loops to enable safe, correct, production-ready code.
• Partner closely with PM and design:
  • Daily working contact with PM for scope and tradeoffs.
  • Daily collaboration with designer for UX decisions and in-tool prototyping with agents.
  • Weekly check-ins with the Engineering Manager on initiative health, blockers, and growth.
• Present results 2–4 weeks post-launch and help answer whether the initiative “did it work.”

Requirements / what you’ll need

• Strong ownership mindset: make calls when needed; be outcome-accountable.
• Ability to lead AI-agent workflows to produce staff-level quality software.
• Experience building and shipping production software with strong standards for correctness, security posture, performance, and observability.
• Capability to evaluate, test, and validate AI-generated code (e.g., preventing hallucinations and catching regressions).

Nice-to-haves (implied)

• Familiarity with AI coding tools/agent stacks such as Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, and internal agent tooling.
• Experience working on marketplace products with real customers and service professionals.
