About the role
Role Overview
As a Staff Product Designer at GitLab, you will lead design for cross-cutting platform experiences that affect every user workflow. You’ll work closely with Product Management, Engineering, and fellow designers to drive the end-to-end design process, grounded in research and high-quality craft.
Key Missions
- Own end-to-end product design for complex, cross-cutting features and workflows.
- Coordinate across multiple groups to align on platform-level experiences with Product Managers and Engineering Managers.
- Contribute to the Pajamas Design System by:
- identifying reusable patterns,
- proposing new components,
- ensuring designs adhere to system standards.
Responsibilities
- Elevate design craft and quality across cross-functional work.
- Mentor and support other designers; help raise team standards.
- Ground decisions in research to support user needs.
Requirements
- Ability to lead design on complex, ambiguous projects with significant cross-functional collaboration.
- Strong portfolio demonstrating end-to-end product design (problem framing → shipped solutions).
- Proficiency with Figma and prototyping tools.
- Experience collaborating closely with Product Management and Engineering.
- Systems thinking and experience contributing to (or working with) design systems.
- Experience working in remote, distributed teams.
- Proven mentoring experience to elevate team craft.
- Excellent communication skills (present work, articulate rationale, facilitate alignment).
Nice to Have
- Familiarity with developer tools, DevSecOps, or technical B2B products.
