About the role
Role overview
Staff/Principal Frontend Engineer for a small, cross-disciplinary team building user-facing product surfaces for expert users working with dense, technical data. You’ll create fast, clear, genuinely usable interfaces for data-heavy views and integrations.
What you’ll do
- Build and refine product features using React, TypeScript, and Next.js, with strong focus on craft and usability.
- Work with backend engineers to integrate APIs and deliver smooth end-to-end experiences.
- Partner with product and design to validate flows, prototype, and iterate.
- Contribute to frontend architecture, especially for:
- handling large data volumes
- keeping the UI responsive under load
- Optimize performance so complex, data-heavy views remain fast and fluid.
What we’re looking for
- 3+ years of frontend engineering experience, ideally shipping web applications or data-driven tools.
- Strong command of React, TypeScript, and modern JavaScript tooling (Next.js preferred).
- Strong UX and visual attention; willingness to push back on designs that won’t hold up in real use.
- Ability to integrate with APIs and reason about client-server boundaries (e.g., REST/GraphQL).
- Collaborative mindset and ability to contribute to product decisions, not only execute tasks.
Ideal background / nice to haves
- Experience building products for technical/expert users (e.g., dashboards, time-series visualization, complex data-editing environments).
- Familiarity with utility-first CSS (Tailwind or similar) and modern component libraries.
- Performance engineering experience (e.g., rendering/virtualizing large datasets).
- Bonus: exposure to WebGL, canvas-based visualization, or graphics programming.
Location / logistics
- Remote within the United States.
- Locations listed: New York (NY), Los Angeles (CA), or Austin (TX).
- ITAR requirement: must be a U.S. citizen/ national, lawful permanent resident, refugee, asylee, or eligible for the required U.S. Department of State authorizations.
