Role overview

OpenSea is hiring a Staff Platform Engineer to build and evolve the platform, services, and infrastructure that help engineering teams build, deploy, and operate products quickly, reliably, and at scale. You’ll improve developer experience and operational excellence while advancing AI-enabled workflows and engineering systems.

Responsibilities

Design, build, and evolve platform services, infrastructure, and internal tooling powering OpenSea’s products
Own complex technical systems end-to-end, balancing scalability, reliability, maintainability, and developer experience
Implement best-in-class observability, monitoring, and alerting across platform systems
Maintain and improve AI skills and tools to make systems more accessible, introspectable, and easier to contribute to
Accelerate and expand CI coverage to improve correctness and AI verifiability
Partner with product teams to speed up build & deployment of critical products
Build and ship high-quality software using AI and modern development tools with strong engineering judgment

Requirements

7+ years of software engineering experience building large-scale backend or platform systems
Strong fluency in JVM languages such as Kotlin or Java
Experience designing and operating distributed systems and backend services in modern cloud infrastructure
Strong understanding of platform engineering: developer tooling, CI/CD, observability, operational best practices
Ability to own ambiguous, complex technical problems and deliver scalable solutions
Excitement for independent technical decisions balancing reliability, scalability, performance, and long-term maintainability
Experience using AI tools/workflows to improve engineering quality and efficiency
Interest in Web3, digital ownership, AI, or other emerging technologies

Strong drive to enhance engineering effectiveness using AI-enabled processes and systems

Compensation & location

US (US-based candidates): $190,000–$345,000 USD base salary
EU (EU-based candidates): $161,500–$293,250 USD base salary
Benefits & equity included; compensation varies for candidates outside the US/EU.
