About the role
Role Overview
PadSplit is hiring a Staff Platform Engineer to provide technical leadership for platform infrastructure and backend architecture as the marketplace scales. You’ll drive platform strategy, improve reliability and developer productivity, and partner across engineering teams to deliver secure, scalable systems.
Responsibilities
- Platform Strategy: Define and drive a technical roadmap for infrastructure, reliability, and scalability initiatives.
- Architecture Leadership: Design and review complex system architectures that support business growth.
- Technical Direction: Set engineering standards, best practices, and reusable technical patterns across teams.
- Reliability Ownership: Improve observability, incident response, and operational excellence.
- Cross-Team Influence: Align technical investments with business priorities with Engineering, Product, and Design leaders.
- Mentorship & Coaching: Mentor engineers and elevate technical capability across the organization.
- Platform Development: Build and improve backend services, infrastructure tooling, and shared platform capabilities.
- Risk Management: Identify technical debt, scalability risks, and operational vulnerabilities early.
Requirements
- Large-scale platform/distributed systems experience designing and operating backend platforms.
- Deep expertise in Django for building, scaling, and modernizing production applications.
- Expert AWS cloud architecture and operating cloud environments.
- Systems design skills for resilient, secure, and scalable systems.
- Advanced Postgres knowledge (architecture, performance optimization, data modeling).
- Operational excellence experience with observability, monitoring, incident management, and reliability practices.
- Technical influence—successful track record driving decisions across multiple teams.
- Strong communication—ability to explain complex concepts and mentor others.
Interview Process (high level)
- Hiring manager review
- PeopleOps video screen (~30 minutes)
- Director of Platform interview (~1 hour)
- If warranted: technical panel interview (~2 hours) with a technical assessment
- If warranted: final interview with CTO
- If warranted: contract stage
