Staff Platform Engineer (Bankrate)

Role overview

Join Bankrate as a Staff Platform Engineer. You’ll build internal platforms, tooling, and standards that enable product engineering teams to deliver software safely, consistently, and at scale.

Key missions

• Design and evolve shared platform models and standards for infrastructure, service operations, and delivery workflows used by product teams.
• Build internal tooling and automation to encourage adoption and ensure consistent application of platform patterns.
• Partner with application engineers to identify friction points and translate them into scalable platform solutions.

Requirements

• 5+ years in platform, infrastructure, cloud, or systems engineering.
• Experience supporting containerized workloads and service platforms (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes, ECS, or similar).
• Hands-on Infrastructure as Code (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation) with ability to build reusable modules/abstractions.
• Strong understanding of the software development lifecycle and how platform systems enable product teams.
• Observability experience using tools such as Datadog, New Relic, Prometheus, or cloud-native monitoring.
• Solid software engineering experience in at least one general-purpose language (Python, Go, JavaScript, etc.).
• Strong experience operating cloud-based engineering systems (e.g., AWS, Azure, or GCP).
• Experience operationalizing service reliability with SLIs, SLOs, and error budgets.
• Security-first mindset, with experience embedding guardrails in shared systems.
• Strong communication and cross-team collaboration skills.
