Staff Platform Engineer

Role Overview

Join Ashby as a Staff Platform Engineer (fully remote). You’ll tackle scaling challenges, improve platform capabilities, and work closely with a small infrastructure/SRE team to shape how developers interact with infrastructure—delivering a reliable yet flexible platform.

Key Missions

• Optimize the DSL-to-SQL compiler and build tools that help developers.
• Create automated guardrails to improve security and client data confidentiality.
• Partner with Sales and Engineering to define SLOs and implement corresponding SLIs.

Responsibilities

• Own projects end-to-end.
• Build “paved road” infrastructure: mature, reliable foundations that still enable experimentation and product engineering.
• Balance reliability with flexibility.
• Support infrastructure operations including updates, security enforcement, and database optimization.
• Debug and resolve issues across Kubernetes and production systems, using platform and telemetry data.
• Participate in interview panels and contribute to team hiring.

Requirements

• Strong SRE/platform engineering mindset with the ability to evaluate and manage risk.
• Ability to build systems engineers find mature, boring, and trustworthy, while remaining open-minded.
• Experience operating infrastructure handling millions of data points and automating key workflows (e.g., provisioning, monitoring, release processes).
• Comfortable with observability/monitoring, data-driven troubleshooting, and incident-style debugging.

Nice-to-haves

• Familiarity with TypeScript traces and digging into complex distributed failures.
• Hands-on experience with Kubernetes debugging and security enforcement.
• Experience optimizing systems at a stage later than where Ashby is today (strong prior impact and maturity).
