Staff Platform Engineer (SRE)

Join Ashby as a Staff Platform Engineer to tackle scaling challenges, enhance the platform, and shape the company’s infrastructure. You’ll work end-to-end on projects with a small infrastructure team and deliver improvements that impact both developer productivity and user experience.

Responsibilities

• Tackle scaling and reliability challenges; evaluate technical and operational risk.
• Own projects end-to-end: make key decisions, debug production issues, and build a future-proof platform.
• Improve and extend platform capabilities, balancing reliability and flexibility.
• Work on:
  • Optimizing the recruiting DSL-to-SQL compiler
  • Implementing security guardrails
  • Building infrastructure for event-driven architecture
• Perform infrastructure updates and security enforcements.
• Drive database optimization and troubleshoot Kubernetes deployments.
• Debug issues using TypeScript traces and investigate what isn’t working.
• Collaborate closely with product/infrastructure stakeholders; speak up for edge cases and future users.
• Participate in interview panels to help hire future colleagues.

Requirements

• Strong SRE mindset: ability to assess and manage risk.
• Proven ability to build systems that engineers enjoy using (mature, reliable, but approachable and open-minded).
• Experience operating infrastructure at scale (handling millions of data points) and improving customer outcomes through reliability.
• Automation mindset across the lifecycle (e.g., provisioning, monitoring, release processes).
• Comfort owning hard problems and investigating mismatches until root cause is clear.
• Debugging capability across infrastructure and application layers.

Nice to Have

• Experience building infrastructure at a stage comparable to Ashby’s maturity (early-to-mid platform evolution).
• Strong interest in security hardening and event-driven systems.
