Role overview
Join Gusto as a Staff Mobile Software Engineer (Android) to build and scale core shared services and deliver high-quality user experiences in the native Android app.
Responsibilities
- Architect, build, test, and refine Gusto’s native Android app and supporting mobile web views.
- Collaborate with product management, design, and partner teams to identify technical/customer pain points, prototype solutions, iterate, and launch improvements.
- Build and scale essential mobile services, including:
- Push notification systems
- Localization features
- Develop platform/common components that improve scalability, consistency, and maintainability.
Requirements
- 7+ years of Kotlin and Android engineering, with 8+ years total mobile engineering experience.
- Strong critical thinking and attention to detail.
- Ability to take initiative on greenfield projects and drive innovative ideas.
- Excellent communication skills and strong cross-functional partnership ability.
- Proficiency with Android testing frameworks and mobile best practices.
- Experience delivering high-quality code across a diverse tech stack.
- Comfort operating in ambiguity by setting clear milestones and deliverables.
- Willingness to continuously learn and mentor others.
Nice to have / Additional signals
- Jetpack Compose and/or GraphQL.
- Familiarity with mobile infrastructure: CI/CD, automated testing environments, and build & release systems.
- Experience with analytics and monitoring tools for app performance and user engagement.
- Familiarity with MVVM architecture.
