Staff Mobile Engineer

Role Overview

As a Staff Mobile Engineer, you will build product features for Shipt’s Member App across the mobile stack. You will lead projects, mentor engineers, and ship reliable, measurable, and valuable customer-facing mobile experiences, leveraging AI coding tools while maintaining high engineering quality.

Responsibilities

• Mobile product engineering: Translate hi-fidelity designs and requirements into working features; clearly communicate complex ideas to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Build & integrate: Design and implement features using React Native, combined with native iOS or Android where needed.
• Cross-functional collaboration: Partner with Backend Engineers, Product Managers, UX Designers, and Data Scientists to design user-focused systems.
• Architecture & quality: Architect scalable and performant React Native solutions; build reusable components.
• Roadmap ownership: Own technical roadmaps and ensure architecture/technical quality across what your team ships.
• Production excellence:
  • Set technical direction aligned to product strategy.
  • Take ownership of incidents and production recovery; drive deep troubleshooting to root cause.
  • Establish observability patterns and best practices.
• Security & process: Maintain a security-first mindset; create processes to address systemic team issues.
• Mentorship & culture: Mentor engineers, model a blameless culture, and promote inclusivity.
• AI-assisted engineering: Use AI-assisted development workflows to accelerate boilerplate, testing, and documentation.

Requirements

• 7+ years of experience with React Native, including:
  • React component lifecycle knowledge
  • Performance optimization
• Strong testing fundamentals: unit, integration, and end-to-end (e2e).
• Strong observability and reliability experience, including Real User Monitoring (RUM) and asset health tooling (e.g., Datadog or similar).
• CI/CD experience with tools such as CircleCI or Drone (or similar).
• Experience in native iOS or Android engineering.
• Experience using AI coding assistants (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Cursor) to speed up development, unit testing, and documentation.
• Familiarity with mobile accessibility best practices.

Nice to Haves

• Detox for e2e testing.
• Node.js server-side JavaScript and API development.
• GraphQL with Apollo Client.
• App distribution experience (e.g., App Store, Play Store, beta channels, CodePush).
• Industry experience building an E-commerce application.
