Staff Mobile Engineer

Role Overview

Staff Mobile Engineer at Hatch, a technical leader and hands-on contributor for the company’s iOS and Android apps that power a connected sleep ecosystem. The role partners closely with Product and mentors engineers, with a strong expectation of fast ramp-up and use of AI-assisted development.

Team & Reporting

• Team: Mobile Engineering
• Reports to: Director of Mobile Engineering
• Location/Work model: Remote-friendly across US/Canada, available during PST/PDT hours

Responsibilities

First 90 Days

• Review the existing mobile codebase and identify immediate technical improvements
• Ship meaningful production code and establish credibility with the engineering team

First 6 Months

• Technical leadership: Lead delivery of features; debug and improve production issues
• Tackle cross-platform problems spanning mobile, firmware, and backend
• Cross-pillar ramp: Build context on how the full mobile platform fits together
• Drive initiatives that improve reliability and increase daily app engagement
• Architectural ownership: Shape architectural problems/solutions with stakeholders and present proposals to mobile engineering forums
• Mentorship: Provide feedback and support to other engineers
• Cross-functional collaboration: Work with Product, Design, and QA to scope, plan, and ship features
• AI integration: Champion AI-assisted development practices so the team adopts them effectively

First Year

• Strategic impact: Contribute to roadmap and mobile organization decisions that benefit users
• Raise the AI bar: Evaluate and implement Hatch’s AI strategy; define standards for onboarding and “what good looks like”

Requirements

• 6+ years building mobile applications
