Staff Infrastructure Engineer

Role Overview

Join Fieldguide as a Staff Infrastructure Engineer to set the technical direction for building and operating infrastructure across multiple teams and product areas in an AI-native environment. You’ll lead critical infrastructure initiatives, partner with executives on technical/AI strategy, and design platforms and systems that enable scalable product and delivery.

Key Missions

• Lead critical infrastructure initiatives and set the technical direction for AI-native infrastructure.
• Own architectural standards & quality bar for Fieldguide infrastructure, ensuring security and compliance.
• Mentor senior engineers and tech leads, staying hands-on where it adds the most leverage (e.g., incident response and architecture reviews).

Responsibilities

• Define and drive infrastructure architecture standards and technical quality criteria.
• Ensure infrastructure security and compliance across systems.
• Lead/participate in incident response and architecture reviews.
• Collaborate with executives to align infrastructure strategy with technical and AI goals.
• Participate in on-call support to maintain 24/7 availability.

Requirements

• Trusted org-level technical leader; strong ability to translate complex technical concepts into business impact.
• 10+ years hands-on experience building complex cloud solutions across AWS services.
• Strong skills provisioning/configuring cloud services using Terraform and AWS CLI/API.
• Experience designing monitoring/alerting and log aggregation (e.g., Datadog, AWS CloudWatch, New Relic, Prometheus/Grafana).
• Experience operating in security/regulatory compliance environments (e.g., SOC 2, PCI-DSS, HIPAA).
• Demonstrated org-level impact (frameworks, platforms, automation that accelerate multiple teams).
• Comfortable supporting on-call operations.
• Strong data systems understanding, including SQL and NoSQL.
• Experience with GraphQL as a database/API front end.
• Experience with database architecture (e.g., Postgres) and improving observability and database performance.
• Experience designing for and supporting security audits (e.g., SOC 2, PCI).
• Experience working with AI (both building with it and enabling its use for engineers/internal applications).

Nice-to-haves

• Familiarity with additional observability tools (e.g., New Relic, Prometheus/Grafana) beyond Datadog/CloudWatch.
• Direct exposure to data/AI workloads that benefit from strong infrastructure observability and performance engineering.
