Staff Housing Caretaker

Role Overview

Fairmont Southampton is hiring a Staff Housing Caretaker / Staff Housing Coordinator to oversee the maintenance, condition, and operational readiness of on-site residential housing complexes, grounds, and related facilities.

Reporting to the Director, Engineering & Facility Operations, you will help ensure residents experience a safe, compliant, high-quality living environment through proactive maintenance management and timely coordination of repairs.

Responsibilities

Maintenance & Repairs (Generalist / Multi-Skilled)

• Perform general maintenance and minor repairs in housing units and common areas.
• Troubleshoot and complete non-specialized repairs for:
  • Plumbing fixtures (leaks, blockages, fittings)
  • Electrical fixtures (light fittings, switches—non-complex work)
  • Air conditioning (basic checks, cleaning, filter changes)
• Carry out carpentry, painting, masonry, and general upkeep.
• Repair and maintain door hardware, locks, and minor structural elements.
• Escalate and coordinate major/certified work (HVAC, electrical, plumbing installations/complex repairs) with qualified vendors or licensed technicians.
• Ensure all completed work meets safety and quality standards.

Property & Grounds Upkeep

• Conduct regular inspections of buildings, housing units, and outdoor areas.
• Maintain cleanliness, safety, and visual presentation of properties and common spaces.
• Support landscaping and general grounds maintenance.
• Coordinate pool maintenance via contractors while ensuring safety compliance.
• Identify and address potential maintenance risks proactively.

Preventative Maintenance & Asset Care

• Support and implement preventative maintenance programs for housing facilities.
• Schedule inspections and servicing of building systems through approved providers.

Requirements

• Experience performing general maintenance and minor repairs across residential or facilities environments.
• Ability to complete non-complex plumbing, electrical, and basic HVAC tasks (e.g., filters/checks) and to recognize when work must be escalated.
• Strong focus on safety, quality standards, and resident living conditions.
• Ability to coordinate contractors for specialized or certified work.

Nice-to-Haves

• Experience coordinating HVAC/electrical/plumbing work with licensed vendors.
• Familiarity with preventative maintenance practices for building systems and facilities.
