About the role
Role overview
Join Workiva as a Staff Frontend Software Engineer to shape the front-end architecture for AI-native product surfaces. You’ll collaborate with ML engineers, product/design teams, and other frontend engineers to deliver fast, intuitive, and trustworthy user experiences while influencing roadmap decisions and raising org-wide frontend standards.
Key missions
- Define and own the front-end architecture for AI-native product surfaces, including:
- Streaming interfaces
- Agentic workflows
- Model-assisted UIs
- Create integration models for LLM APIs and real-time data flows in production frontends.
- Contribute hands-on to complex feature development and support implementation within the team.
Requirements
- 4+ years of front-end engineering experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science/Engineering (or equivalent practical experience)
- Advanced proficiency in TypeScript and modern frontend frameworks (e.g., React)
- Experience building interoperability between Dart and TypeScript microfrontends
- Experience building and scaling microfrontend architectures and front-end platforms
- Proven ability to mentor engineers and raise team-wide technical standards
- Experience authoring RFDs and technical roadmaps aligning multiple product squads around a unified frontend platform vision
- Strong understanding of browser-side performance bottlenecks for real-time streaming, including:
- Long-lived WebSockets
- Server-Sent Events (SSE)
- Heavy string manipulation for real-time LLM streaming
- Experience building reusable frontend SDKs/internal libraries to standardize AI patterns (e.g., streaming, reasoning, tool calling, HITL)
- Experience implementing monitoring for AI UX, such as TTFT, user-correction rates, and client-side model latency
- Experience working in distributed/cloud-based environments
