Staff Frontend Engineer, Stripe Dashboard

Role Overview

As a Senior Staff Engineer on Stripe’s Merchant Experience team, you’ll be a technical leader shaping how Stripe merchants interact with the product—especially as AI changes user workflows. You’ll drive step-function improvements in quality and performance across core merchant surfaces, and help define what AI-powered merchant experiences look like in an AI-native world.

Responsibilities

• Define technical strategy for merchant-facing experiences, focusing on quality, performance, and AI integration into core user workflows.
• Lead design and delivery of complex, cross-team projects that measurably improve reliability, responsiveness, and polish of merchant surfaces.
• Champion a quality-first engineering culture by establishing standards, tooling, and processes that make high-quality, high-performance UI the default.
• Drive performance as a product feature for the Stripe Dashboard and merchant tools, including instrumentation, performance budgets, and architectural improvements.
• Innovate on future merchant UX by exploring and prototyping how AI can transform how merchants discover, configure, and operate Stripe products.
• Build platforms and abstractions (frameworks, components, developer tools) that improve productivity and encode best practices for quality and performance.
• Partner with Product, Design, AI/ML, and infrastructure teams to translate product vision into a technical roadmap.
• Mentor and grow engineers, raising the technical bar and fostering craftsmanship and high standards.

Requirements

• Senior Staff scope: expected to oversee 4–6 teams and own an entire portfolio of products.
• 10–15+ years of experience in the industry (preferred range).
• Experience building and shipping complex, user-facing web applications at large scale (hundreds of thousands of users) or contributed to by hundreds of engineers.
• Track record leading large-scale, cross-functional engineering projects with broad organizational impact.
