Staff Frontend Engineer on the Stripe Merchant Experience team, a technical leadership role shaping how Stripe merchants interact with the product—especially in an AI-native world.

Responsibilities

• Define technical strategy for merchant-facing experiences, focusing on quality, performance, and AI integration into core workflows.
• Lead the design and delivery of complex, cross-team projects that measurably improve reliability, responsiveness, and polish of merchant surfaces.
• Drive a quality-first engineering culture by establishing standards, tooling, and processes for shipping high-quality, performant UI by default.
• Treat performance as a product feature: own the technical approach to making the Stripe Dashboard and merchant tools best-in-class, including instrumentation, performance budgets, and architectural improvements.
• Innovate merchant UX: explore and prototype how AI can transform discovery, configuration, and operation of Stripe products beyond traditional dashboard paradigms.
• Build platforms and abstractions that improve engineering productivity (frameworks, components, and developer tools encoding best practices).
• Partner with Product, Design, AI/ML, and infrastructure to translate product vision into a concrete technical roadmap.
• Mentor and grow engineers to raise the technical bar and foster a culture of craftsmanship.

Requirements

• Staff-level seniority with scope spanning oversight of 4–6 teams and ownership of an entire product portfolio (expected experience typically 10–15 years).
• Experience building and shipping complex, large-scale, user-facing web applications.
• Track record leading large-scale, cross-functional engineering projects with broad organizational impact.
