Staff Frontend Engineer, Search Feed

Role overview

Staff Frontend Engineer for Airbnb’s Search Feed team. You’ll lead impactful work on Airbnb’s core search experience, helping design and build scalable, performant, and reliable frontend solutions used by millions of users.

Responsibilities

• Provide early technical direction on the scope and feasibility of large, complex features
• Prototype new features to gather feedback and uncover technical challenges in collaboration with design and product
• Use data-informed experimentation to iterate on product
• Identify and drive architectural improvements in the codebase to increase performance, reliability, and scalability
• Own technical designs or implementations for foundational initiatives enabling multiple search features
• Review partner engineering designs and code, helping teams move fast while applying best practices
• Mentor and guide engineers, fostering knowledge sharing and continuous learning

Requirements

• 10+ years building web applications at scale with a large customer base
• Strong experience building/maintaining performant, scalable consumer web applications (ideally React, TypeScript, GraphQL)
• Deep frontend expertise: architecture, component design best practices, client performance, accessibility (a11y), and styling
• Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional partners and across engineering teams
• Excellent communication: present tradeoffs and iterate toward ideal solutions
• Flexible mindset to balance new product experiences with improvements to technical foundations
• Strong technical quality mindset; proactive in code reviews and architecture discussions

Nice to have

• Experience with motion and prototyping
