Staff Frontend Engineer, Client Data & Networking Platform

Role Overview

As a Staff Frontend Engineer on Airbnb’s Client Data & Networking Platform team, you’ll empower engineers to build fast, reliable, and data-rich features at scale. The team owns Airbnb’s client data layer, including the GraphQL runtime, client networking infrastructure, and developer tooling that supports product teams across the company.

Responsibilities

• Partner with product teams to understand pain points, pilot solutions, and drive adoption of paved-path tooling and frameworks.
• Collaborate with Android and iOS engineers to develop foundational cross-platform solutions.
• Work with infrastructure and product foundation teams to build additional capabilities on top of the team’s offerings.
• Contribute across the full software lifecycle: architecture/design → implementation → testing → on-call.
• Influence engineering strategy by shaping technical priorities and best practices for web client development.

Requirements

• 10+ years of industry experience.
• Extensive experience with TypeScript for web applications.
• Experience integrating with GraphQL and REST APIs.
• Experience in a Platform, Infrastructure, or Developer Productivity team.
• Strong client-focused fundamentals, including:
  • client networking
  • performance optimization
  • caching strategies
  • client storage solutions
  • asynchronous programming
• Experience mentoring and growing engineers, and driving best practices.
• Demonstrated ability to influence engineering strategy across a large organization.
• Interest in building internal tooling and CLI applications.

Nice to Have

• Experience building agentic AI solutions.

Location / Work Model

• US Remote Eligible (may require occasional office work or offsites, as agreed with your manager).
• Must live in a state where Airbnb has a registered entity; some states may be excluded.
