Staff Engineer

Role overview

Join Pager Health as a Staff Engineer. You will lead the design and architecture of complex healthcare systems, mentor senior engineers, and partner closely with Product and Design to deliver reliable, high-quality software that improves digital patient experiences.

Responsibilities

• Lead system design & architecture for complex healthcare applications, ensuring scalability and performance.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineering teams, promoting best practices and high coding standards.
• Manage and prioritize multiple engineering projects and tasks to ensure timely delivery.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with Product Managers, Designers, and engineering leaders to align technical requirements with business goals.
• Participate in on-call rotation as incident escalation SME (about once every 2–3 months), including weekend/holiday coverage.

Requirements

• 7+ years designing, building, and deploying large-scale distributed systems and microservices.
• Hands-on experience with .NET and C#.
• System design & architecture experience (scalability, performance).
• Strong relational database fundamentals, including query optimization and data modeling.
• Cloud experience with AWS and/or GCP, including Docker and Kubernetes.
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code and building/deploying: cloud services, front-end/back-end services, databases, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Expertise in at least one framework: TypeScript, Next.js, Nest, or React.
• Strong written and verbal communication to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• High independence and curiosity, able to leverage resources effectively and solve problems creatively.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience as escalation SME/on-call in production environments.
