About the role
Role Overview
Staff Engineer (Front-End) focused on Account Experience for a complex, data-rich merchant platform managing global payments workflows. This is a senior individual contributor role that sets and drives front-end architecture across multiple teams in a remote-first environment.
Responsibilities
- Define and evolve front-end architecture across multiple Account Experience teams to ensure a unified, scalable, high-performance merchant experience.
- Drive front-end technical strategy across product areas, balancing strategic leadership with hands-on implementation.
- Own architecture for a complex web platform, including:
- State management
- Performance optimization
- System design
- Build and maintain shared front-end foundations such as:
- Component libraries
- Design systems
- Reusable patterns
- Shape merchant-facing experiences, including emerging AI-driven interfaces and conversational workflows.
- Lead and mentor engineers via design reviews, code contributions, and technical guidance (no direct authority).
- Champion best practices across accessibility, performance, observability, and front-end reliability.
- Partner with Product, Design, and backend engineering to align on technical and product trade-offs.
- Ensure cohesion across multiple product surfaces to prevent user experience fragmentation.
Requirements
- Senior/staff-level front-end expertise with demonstrated influence over architecture across multiple teams and systems.
- Proven ability to operate at Staff or Principal Engineer level.
- Strong expertise in TypeScript and React building large-scale, long-lived applications.
- Deep understanding of front-end architecture: state management, performance optimization, and component system design.
- Experience scaling design systems and reusable patterns across teams.
- Strong technical judgment and ability to influence engineering direction.
- Comfortable collaborating across the stack, especially with backend engineers on API and system design.
- Excellent communication skills to explain complex decisions to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
