Staff Engineer (Ads Business Manager)

Role overview

Join Reddit as a Staff Engineer on the Ads Business Manager team. You will develop and execute a long-term technical strategy for business identity, governance, permissions, and organizational management systems that support both customer-facing and internal platform needs.

Responsibilities

• Define and drive the technical strategy for systems covering business identity, governance, permissions, and organizational management.
• Lead large, cross-functional projects end-to-end (concept → design → implementation → launch → adoption), ensuring high quality and performance.
• Mentor engineers and technical leaders; share industry knowledge and support the team’s technical growth.
• Partner with engineering teams and stakeholders to coordinate alignment across diverse groups.

Requirements

• 7+ years of software engineering experience building production services at scale.
• Strong communication skills and experience working with service-oriented teams.
• Experience coordinating large-scale, cross-functional efforts.
• Strong backend proficiency in Go and/or Python.
• Experience with service frameworks (e.g., gRPC/Thrift) and API design.
• Experience solving complex scaling and latency performance problems.
• Experience with distributed systems, data modeling, and event-driven architectures (e.g., Kafka/PubSub).
• Previous experience as Tech Lead or similar.
• Ads domain experience.
• Experience building identity/access/governance/administration/enterprise platform solutions for large-scale customers.
• Experience building solutions for advertising agencies or other global enterprise customers.

Nice to have

• Some frontend experience and ability to make UI changes.
• Ability to leverage AI tools for parts of the development cycle (e.g., Codex) and make UI changes with AI assistance.
• Experience using AI tools across the development lifecycle.
