About the role
Role Overview
As a Staff DevOps Engineer (Infrastructure Platform) on Housecall Pro’s Infrastructure Platform team, you will design and operate secure, scalable infrastructure foundations that power the engineering organization. You’ll embed security, compliance, and supply-chain protections by default into the infrastructure platform—creating primitives, guardrails, and “golden paths” that make secure delivery the easiest path for product teams.
Responsibilities
- Lead the strategy, roadmap, and execution for operating AWS as a stable, scalable platform for engineering teams.
- Own the architecture and day-to-day health of AWS environments, including:
- compute, networking, storage, identity
- Kubernetes-based runtime platforms
- Drive continuous improvements in reliability, performance, and fault tolerance via:
- observability, capacity planning, resilience engineering
- Establish and enforce AWS best practices for:
- account structure, networking, isolation, and service usage
- Make Infrastructure-as-Code the default operating model for consistent provisioning, upgrades, and lifecycle management.
- Improve developer experience with self-service infrastructure patterns, templates, and paved paths.
- Manage cloud cost visibility and optimization (usage, tradeoffs, efficiency).
- Partner with reliability, delivery, and security stakeholders to meet uptime, performance, and compliance requirements.
- Mentor and grow a cloud engineering team with strong ownership.
Requirements
- Staff-level ability to translate security requirements into scalable platform abstractions.
- Deep hands-on experience operating cloud infrastructure and building platform “guardrails” that do not slow delivery.
Nice-to-Haves
- Experience working at the intersection of cloud infrastructure, Kubernetes platforms, infrastructure-as-code, and policy automation.
- Strong observability and resilience engineering background.
