Staff Developer, SDLC Foundations

Role Overview

Staff Developer on the SDLC Foundations team at 1Password. You’ll build and evolve the tooling and services that power the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) for all engineering teams.

What You’ll Own

• Centralized feature flag platform (internal services integrating with an external system)
• Telemetry capabilities
• Developer experience (DevEx) tooling
• An emerging experimentation platform

Responsibilities

• Act as the technical DRI for foundational platform work
• Own architectural decisions that raise engineering standards for building, shipping, and operating software safely and confidently
• Shape and drive the team’s technical roadmap and ensure platform investments are well-sequenced and strategically grounded
• Be a force multiplier: mentor developers and foster scalable, robust engineering practices

Requirements

• 8+ years of professional software development experience in a production SaaS environment
• Hands-on experience building/evolving platform-level services, such as:
  • feature flagging systems
  • telemetry
  • developer tooling
  • experimentation infrastructure
• Ability to design scalable backend services and APIs serving multiple product surfaces and teams
• Experience leading cross-team technical initiatives requiring alignment across frontend, backend, platform, and product stakeholders
• Proficiency in Go
• Ability to influence engineering direction beyond your immediate team and drive ambiguous, high-impact problems forward
• Strong written and verbal communication to build shared understanding across engineering, product, and infrastructure stakeholders
