Staff Design Engineer

Role overview

Join Juniper Square as a Staff Design Engineer on the Design team. You will help define what design engineering looks like as the organization and product grow—setting design system strategy, shaping how AI integrates into the design-to-engineering workflow, and establishing what great UI quality means at scale.

This is a hands-on role: you’ll write code, build components, and prototype to validate directions, while your execution sets the example and informs strategy.

Responsibilities

• Own the design system strategy and roadmap
  • Define what the system needs to become
  • Set priorities and governance
  • Build a sustainable contribution model as the team and product scale
• Define AI enablement for design-to-engineering
  • Determine how AI tools integrate from prototype to production
  • Build systems that make the team faster and deliver higher-quality work
• Set technical direction for UI quality across the product
  • (Role is focused on establishing standards that hold up against complex, data-heavy product workflows)
• Partner across Design, Engineering, and Product to align execution with strategy

Requirements

• Experience building a design system before
• Strong opinions about what makes a design system effective and scalable
• AI fluency with direct experience shaping how AI changes design-to-engineering workflows
• Willingness to be deeply hands-on (code, components, prototyping)

Nice-to-haves

• Experience supporting data-heavy products and complex user workflows (e.g., fund accounting, investor portals, reporting)
• Demonstrated ability to drive governance and contribution models for design systems
