Staff Data Scientist

Role overview

Join Ontra as a Staff Data Scientist and partner with product leadership to drive data-informed insights and influence the product roadmap. You will lead analysis efforts, define metric frameworks, and communicate compelling narratives to executive stakeholders. You will also mentor and elevate the broader data team.

Key missions

• Collaborate with the GM/VP Product to leverage data insights to improve commercial results and shape product strategy
• Perform deep analysis to inform and influence the product roadmap, ensuring decisions are grounded in strong insights
• Align data science initiatives with strategic product goals in partnership with the VP Product
• Build and present clear data narratives for executive teams
• Mentor and guide team members; continuously raise the bar for the data team

Responsibilities

• Influence stakeholders at the VP level or higher through clear, persuasive communication
• Define and implement metric frameworks such as North Star metrics, funnels, and guardrails
• Lead analytical workflows using advanced SQL and a data science language (Python or R)
• Drive measurable product outcomes using data
• Support team capability building (tech lead/management experience preferred)

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience in data science, analytics, or applied quantitative work, including 2+ years at Senior or higher
• Demonstrated ability to present to and influence VP-level+ stakeholders
• Proven ability to drive measurable product outcomes using data
• Strong expertise in advanced SQL
• Fluency in Python or R for analytical workflows
• Experience at tech lead and/or manager level strongly preferred

• Experience improving the capabilities of the broader data team
• Additional leadership experience (strong preference for tech lead/manager experience)
