Staff Data Scientist

Role Overview

Join Grindr as a Staff Data Scientist (full remote). You will partner with product managers, designers, and engineers to develop meaningful metrics, run experiments, and translate analysis into product growth insights.

Key Missions

• Collaborate with product leaders and engineering teams to design insightful metrics and execute experiments.
• Extract actionable insights from broad, open-ended questions.
• Design and evaluate experiments to measure the impact of product changes.
• Develop tools/automation to streamline analyses, improve team productivity, and provide guidance across the data science team.

Requirements

• 7+ years of industry data science experience.
• Experience with big data technologies, including Spark.
• Strong Python skills for data analysis using pandas and Jupyter Notebook.
• Ability to explain the “why” behind work (not just implementation details).
• Experience with data analytics and BI tools such as Looker, Tableau, Power BI, or Snowflake.
• BS (or higher) in a quantitative field (Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Physics) or equivalent experience.
• Proven experience writing and optimizing complex SQL on large datasets.
• Strong background in inferential statistics, especially experimentation (e.g., hypothesis testing, power analysis, experimental design).
• Skilled at communicating and collaborating with non-technical stakeholders.
• Excellent communication, presentation, and documentation skills; can define and communicate the big picture to stakeholders.

Nice-to-haves

• Background in machine learning, including knowing when ML is appropriate and how to build models that work reliably in the real world.
• Experience with Statsig.
