Staff Data Scientist, Consumer

Role Overview

Staff Data Scientist (Consumer) will guide consumer product strategy using data-driven insights, exploratory analysis, and experimentation. You’ll identify opportunities to attract new users, improve engagement, and drive retention, while helping the organization scale and increase data literacy.

Responsibilities

• Identify opportunities to attract new users, increase engagement, and drive retention
• Influence strategic roadmaps with insights into user behaviors and needs
• Design and build metrics to evaluate product and business health (including ETL as needed)
• Drive experimentation end-to-end: design → execution → analysis → learning
• Build self-serve tools for product and engineering partners to answer common questions and improve data literacy
• Collaborate cross-functionally with product, engineering, and design teams to ship insights
• Scale impact by mentoring junior data scientists, improving processes, and focusing on the most important problems

Required Qualifications

• M.S. or Ph.D. in Statistics, Mathematics, Physics, Economics, or Operations Research
  • M.S.: 10+ years applied science/data science experience
  • Ph.D.: 6+ years applied science/data science experience
• Expert SQL and strong knowledge of relational databases
• Familiarity with statistical analysis and team-preferred languages (R / Python)
• Proven ability to influence product strategy with data
• Ability to solve ambiguous, hypothesis-driven problems in a structured way
• Familiarity with causal inference techniques and causal models
• Strong communication skills with senior leaders/stakeholders
• Entrepreneurial, self-directed, and bias toward action
• Demonstrated ability to mentor and elevate data science best practices

• Experience partnering deeply with senior leadership to set direction and investment decisions (implied by requirements)
