Role overview

Staff Data Scientist (Alpha / data science)

• Senior technical anchor for the data science function
• Own data strategy, drive experimentation, and mentor senior data scientists
• Full-remote role open to candidates across the U.S.

Key missions

• Own the company’s data strategy, setting the direction for the experimentation practice and bringing analytical clarity to strategic decisions.
• Lead the implementation of experimentation and related standards across teams, including how to design, execute, and evaluate experiments.
• Mentor and partner with senior data scientists, operating with the autonomy needed to define the team’s direction.

Responsibilities

• Turn messy analysis into clear recommendations and communicate insights with clarity.
• Build dashboards and visualizations that support real decision-making.
• Define and influence data infrastructure standards and participate credibly in system design discussions.
• Lead end-to-end work across the data pipeline (triage issues, specify data engineering work, and guide data engineers through complex problems when needed).
• Design and analyze experiments, ensuring tests are reliable and interpreting signal vs noise.
• Apply deep expertise in predictive modeling and ML techniques.
• Act as a product partner: proactively identify important questions, size opportunities, and help product managers decide where to place bets.

Requirements

• 7+ years experience as a Data Scientist.
• Strong SQL and Python fluency (not only for analysis, but to influence engineering decisions and standards).
• Demonstrated experience designing and evaluating experiments.
• Deep experience with predictive modeling and machine learning.
• Ability to operate end-to-end across data pipelines (analysis to data engineering collaboration).
• Excellent written and verbal communication.

Nice to have

• Experience mentoring/partnering with senior data scientists.
• Product-oriented mindset (working proactively rather than waiting for requests).
