Staff Backend Software Engineer

Role overview

Join Perchwell as a Staff Backend Software Engineer to architect the next generation of the platform and accelerate growth across the real estate industry. You’ll design scalable APIs and services, build reliable infrastructure, and partner with cross-functional teams and engineering leaders on strategic technical initiatives.

Key missions

• Architect the platform foundation for product services.
• Collaborate with engineering leaders and cross-functional teams to deliver strategic technical initiatives.
• Design and implement scalable APIs and services, including authentication/authorization.
• Build and maintain reliable, production-grade infrastructure.
• Apply distributed systems and performance-minded design across services, databases, and infrastructure.

Requirements

• Backend service and API development experience using modern languages: Python, Golang, Rust, or Ruby.
• 10+ years of software development experience, primarily backend-focused.
• Strong engineering fundamentals: modularity, scalability, and separation of concerns.
• Experience with cloud platforms: AWS and/or GCP.
• Experience with message passing / streaming architectures: Kafka, Red Panda, and gRPC/protobufs.
• Ability to work across service, database, and infrastructure boundaries.
• Experience designing solutions across multiple database types (e.g., relational, columnar, document, vector).
• Expertise in distributed systems and scalable services on Kubernetes.
• Ability to integrate observability and performance monitoring into system design.
• Comfort working with frontend technologies, including TypeScript/JavaScript and React.

Nice-to-haves

• Direct experience building platform foundations that enable multiple product services (as implied by the role’s “platform foundation” mission).
