About the role

Role overview

As a Staff Backend Engineer at Sardine, you will lead the development of a compliance and financial crime prevention platform. You’ll design, build, and maintain backend systems that support regulatory and monitoring workflows.

Key missions

Conceive, design, and implement robust backend services for compliance and financial crime prevention.
Collaborate with compliance stakeholders and product teams to translate regulatory requirements into scalable technical solutions.
Mentor engineers and drive technical strategy to improve detection accuracy and streamline investigator workflows.

Responsibilities

Develop highly available APIs and production services.
Build and maintain robust data integrations.
Deliver systems for:
- KYC onboarding
- Sanctions screening
- Transaction monitoring
- Regulatory reporting
Support high-throughput and/or real-time screening and monitoring use cases.

Requirements

7+ years of software engineering experience in web backend development and complex system integrations.
Strong track record delivering high-quality production services.
Experience integrating and building backend systems for regulated environments (e.g., financial services AML/KYC, healthcare HIPAA, background screening, PCI-DSS, or similar).
Ability to communicate effectively in English.

Nice to have

AML/CFT compliance domain experience.
Golang proficiency.
Familiarity with SAR/STR filing processes and GoAML or similar reporting formats.
Experience with case management systems, alert workflows, and investigation tooling.
