About the role

Role Overview

Join Airbnb as a Staff Backend Engineer on the Host Pricing & Availability team. You’ll set and execute technical strategy for Airbnb’s pricing product roadmap, working closely with Product, Design, and Data Science.

Responsibilities

  • Architect and lead the technical strategy for pricing and availability backend systems.
  • Ensure APIs, services, and data pipelines are reliable and evolve with business needs.
  • Develop and optimize core pricing and availability products, partnering with product engineers and cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Drive engineering excellence by establishing architectural standards and mentoring senior engineers.

Requirements

  • 9+ years of engineering experience (BS/MS or PhD in CS or similar).
  • Proven ability influencing cross-functional partners and engineering teams.
  • Experience with large-scale backend systems in service-oriented architectures.
  • Track record of leading teams, setting technical strategy, and delivering high-impact features.
  • Strong problem-solving and production debugging skills.
  • Excellent communication and cross-team collaboration; sound judgment on tradeoffs between short-term needs and long-term quality.
