Staff Backend Engineer

Role Overview

Join Pyroscope (Grafana Labs) as a Staff Backend Engineer working on a continuous profiling database. You’ll design and operate backend systems that power profiling for both on-premises and cloud environments, influencing the product roadmap and delivering features at scale.

Key Missions

• Collaborate with the backend team to deliver profiling solutions for on-premises and cloud at scale.
• Lead projects from concept to implementation, including customer support responsibilities.
• Design, build, operate, and maintain core systems with a focus on reliability, performance, and availability.
• Play an active role in shaping the roadmap and mentoring team members.

Responsibilities

• Build modular backend systems that can evolve with customer needs.
• Support ongoing operations, including on-call duties.
• Work iteratively: analyze → design → build → ship → collect feedback → improve.

Requirements

• Strong experience designing and developing software running in the cloud or systems engineering.
• Solid distributed systems experience.
• Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively in a fully remote team.
• Experience with at least one programming language (Go is used; Python/C/C++/Rust also valued).
• Experience delivering projects end-to-end (from requirements to shipping) in a self-driven manner.
• Kubernetes experience.
• Exposure to on-call / operations / SRE tasks or infrastructure as code.
• Ability to write clean, robust, performant code that others can maintain.

Nice-to-Haves

• Experience with microservices architecture.
• Backend database experience.
• Been a user of Grafana and Prometheus in operational/on-call contexts.
• Passion for building intuitive products aligned to customer needs.
