Staff Backend Engineer (Grafana App Platform)

Role Overview

Join Grafana Labs as a Staff Backend Engineer (Grafana App Platform). You will help evolve Grafana’s core architecture to be fully multi-tenant and scalable, while delivering new backend features and improving operational excellence.

Key Missions

• Refactor a significant portion of Grafana to simplify and standardize the architecture, ensuring it is multi-tenant and scalable.
• Build new backend features and enhance operational experience of the systems you own.
• Iterate using production insights to continuously improve reliability and performance.
• Shape the roadmap in collaboration with stakeholders.
• Mentor and support team members and collaborate across teams.
• Participate in on-call rotations.

Responsibilities

• Deliver backend implementations aligned with squad needs and external stakeholders.
• Keep plans transparent, bring stakeholders along, and incorporate feedback.
• Own operational responsibilities for software you build.

Requirements

• Backend experience with SaaS platforms and exposure to distributed systems challenges, including:
  • scalability
  • multi-tenancy
  • data isolation
  • high availability (HA)
• Strong coding and operational experience; you were responsible for operating systems you built.
• Pragmatic engineering approach (prioritize progress over perfection) and ability to handle ambiguity.
• Excellent communication skills in writing and meetings.
• Familiarity with Go (Golang), or strong motivation to learn.

Nice to Haves

• Experience working across multiple teams (cross-squad collaboration).
• Interest in using modern AI coding assistants (access provided).
