Staff Backend Engineer (Grafana App Platform)

Role overview

Join Grafana Labs as a Staff Backend Engineer for the Grafana App Platform. You will help evolve Grafana into a fully multi-tenant, scalable observability app platform, with ownership across architecture refactoring, feature development, operational improvements, and team mentorship.

Key missions

• Refactor a significant portion of Grafana to simplify and standardize its architecture for multi-tenancy and scalability.
• Develop new backend features and enhance operational experience of the systems you build, improving iteratively using production insights.
• Shape the roadmap collaboratively, mentor and support team members, and coordinate with other teams and external stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Take an active role in architecture and roadmap decisions.
• Operate and improve the software you build.
• Lead collaboration across squads to align with squad needs and stakeholders.

Requirements

• Strong backend engineering background with operational experience; you have been responsible for operating the software you build.
• Experience with SaaS platforms and distributed systems challenges such as:
  • Scalability
  • Multi-tenancy
  • Data isolation
  • High availability (HA)
• Excellent communication skills (clear writing and meeting communication) and ability to choose appropriate communication modes.
• Pragmatic approach: prioritize progress over perfection; comfortable handling ambiguity.
• Willing to work across teams with plans and transparency.

• Golang experience is required or the candidate is excited to learn it.
