Staff Backend Engineer (Grafana App Platform)

Role overview

Join Grafana Labs as a Staff Backend Engineer for the Grafana App Platform. You’ll help transform Grafana into a fully multi-tenant and scalable observability application platform by refactoring core architecture, building new backend features, and improving operational excellence.

Key missions

• Refactor Grafana’s architecture to simplify and standardize it, ensuring multi-tenancy and scalability.
• Code new features and enhance operational experience, iterating using production insights.
• Shape the roadmap, mentor team members, and collaborate with other teams and stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Improve systems based on real-world usage and operational feedback.
• Lead cross-team alignment by making plans transparent and incorporating feedback.
• Operate the software you build (strong ownership of reliability and operations).

Requirements

• Experience building SaaS platforms and solving distributed systems problems such as:
  • Scalability
  • Multi-tenancy
  • Data isolation
  • High availability (HA)
• Ability to work across teams and align with squads and external stakeholders.
• Pragmatic mindset: prioritize progress over perfection; comfortable with ambiguity.
• Strong coding and operational experience (responsible for operating what you build).
• Backend experience with Golang (or willingness to learn).
• Excellent communication skills (clear writing and in-meetings communication).
