Staff Backend Engineer (Alerting)

Role Overview

Staff Backend Engineer (Alerting) at Grafana Labs. You will help improve alert management by partnering with customers and Grafana Cloud teams. The role is remote-first and involves designing, building, operating, and maintaining critical backend systems.

Key Missions

• Contribute actively to the team roadmap and deliver new features.
• Lead projects from initial ideation through production operation, ensuring reliability and performance.
• Mentor and support other team members.
• Participate in design discussions and collaborate across the team.

Responsibilities

• Own backend systems for alerting, including reliability and performance.
• Build maintainable, modular solutions with short feedback loops (analyze → design → build → iterate).
• Deliver end-to-end project outcomes from requirements gathering to shipping.
• Collaborate effectively in a fully remote environment.

Requirements

• Solid experience with at least one programming language (Go preferred).
• Experience writing clean, robust, high-performance software that others can maintain.
• Some experience building software for the Cloud and/or systems engineering.
• Experience delivering projects end-to-end (requirements → ideas → shipping), self-driven.
• Independent attitude and strong communication skills for a remote-first organization.
• Customer focus and passion for intuitive, user-fit product experiences.

Nice-to-Haves

• Familiarity with Python, Java, C++, or Rust (in addition to or instead of Go).
