Staff Android Engineer (Brand Ad Formats)

Role overview

Join Reddit’s Brand Ad Formats team as a Staff Android Engineer. You’ll lead the technical strategy for Reddit’s Video Ads, help build new Android ad formats, and drive end-to-end development while mentoring senior engineers.

Responsibilities

• Lead technical strategy for turning Reddit’s Video Ads into a leading offering for brand advertisers.
• Provide technical guidance for Reddit-unique ad formats on Android.
• Partner with Product and Design to define and execute a roadmap for evolving Video Ads.
• Drive the full development lifecycle: discovery, prototyping, testing, data-driven experimentation, and deployment.
• Mentor senior engineers across teams and establish best practices for design, testing, and operational excellence.

Requirements

• Strong collaboration skills for a fully remote environment; communicate clearly with technical and non-technical partners.
• 8+ years of software engineering experience (Staff level).
• Android expertise (minimum 3+ years): deep knowledge of Kotlin and modern Android architectural patterns, with 4+ production Android projects from idea to deployment.
• Ability to prioritize, keep work on schedule, and maintain strong organizational discipline.
• Demonstrated technical leadership with a track record of mentoring.
• Experimentation and analytics fluency using product metrics and experiment design; experience with tools such as BigQuery, Firebase, HEX (or similar).
• System design ability to build fault-tolerant client-side systems in complex, data-intensive contexts.
• Experience leveraging GenAI tools to improve engineering productivity.
• Product mindset: deliver user-facing features where UI polish and performance matter.
• Entrepreneurial, action-oriented approach and comfort with ambiguity.
• Versatility to work across the stack as needed, including exploring AI/ML integration.

Nice to have

• Prior experience in Ad Tech, especially interactive/rich-media mobile experiences.
• Experience working on Video Ads.
• Experience at a scaled peer company.
• Experience with Jetpack Compose.
