About the role

Role overview

As Staff Analytics Engineer (senior individual contributor) on the Data Services & Governance team, you will be the thought and technical leader responsible for Pleo’s semantic layer and analytics standards. You will own what “good” looks like across analytics domains by defining, improving, maintaining, and evangelising modelling standards and AI-augmented analytics engineering practices.

Key responsibilities

Own the semantic layer as the single source of truth for AI agents, BI tools, and analysts.
- Define what a metric definition is, its structure, where it lives, and how it is enforced.
- Ensure canonical metric definitions (e.g., MRR, churn, transactions, customers) are consistent and do not diverge.
Set analytics engineering data modelling standards
- Establish clean, layered, well-tested dbt architectures across domains.
Build the Analytics Engineering community of practice
- Drive code reviews, shared patterns, documentation, and onboarding.
Own AI-native development practice
- Help shape how teams use AI coding tools to improve engineering workflows and outputs.
Influence tooling and stack decisions
- Semantic layer tooling selection is in progress; BI stack is transitioning, so you will help decide what comes next and build it.

Collaboration

Report to the Data Engineering Manager overseeing Data Infra & MLOps and Data Services & Governance.
Work closely with Analytics Engineers across the Intelligence function for architecture guidance and semantic layer decisions.
Partner with a Staff Data Engineer on standards and pipeline practices.
Coordinate with Data Serving on entity definitions.
Partner with the GenAI Platform team on what AI-ready data looks like at the platform boundary.
