Staff Analytics Engineer

Role overview

As a Staff Analytics Engineer at Affirm, you will build and own the Financial Subledger Data Platform. This is a senior hands-on role where you will write and ship production dbt code, set platform standards, and directly manage and mentor an Analytics Engineer, with high autonomy and cross-functional collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Own the Financial Subledger Data Platform, including:
  • dbt models
  • Governed datasets
  • Control frameworks
• Write and ship production dbt code and establish platform standards
• Implement data quality and data controls
• Own subledger data products end-to-end
• Collaborate with upstream engineering teams to define inputs and improve source data quality
• Lead ambiguous work through influence across Finance, Accounting, and Engineering stakeholders

Requirements

• Experience operating data pipelines in a warehouse environment (Snowflake preferred), including:
  • Performance tuning
  • Cost awareness
  • Reliability practices
• Deep Snowflake expertise:
  • Architecture patterns (micro-partitioning/clustering, query optimization)
  • Security/governance (RBAC, masking policies)
  • Operational excellence (monitoring, cost management, reliability)
• Strong SQL and data modeling skills, including building canonical datasets for finance reporting/reconciliations
• Deep hands-on analytics engineering experience owning production dbt projects (models, tests, macros, documentation, CI)
• Strong programming skills (Python preferred) for tooling/automation (control checks, reconciliation workflows, utilities/CLIs, integrations)
• Experience with accounting concepts including subledgers, journal entries/posting logic, balance rollforwards, tie-outs, and close processes
• Experience designing SOX-friendly controls and producing repeatable evidence from data pipelines

Nice to have

• Experience applying AI/LLMs to data quality or reconciliation workflows (e.g., anomaly explanation, investigation summaries) with governance and human-in-the-loop review
• AWS experience (e.g., S3/IAM, data platform primitives, secure/cloud architecture)
